Grief is the normal and natural emotional response to loss. There are times when support and guidance are needed on how to heal and integrate the loss. Grief recovery requires that underlying emotions and messages related to the loss be identified and processed. By taking specific actions you can emotionally and physically release the pain related to personal losses and core issues. I help individuals dealing with various forms of loss. I use both individual and group counseling and psychotherapy to address grief, loss and life transition issues.
Loss comes in many forms and these are but a few life events and life transitions that can lead to grief and loss:
Life transitions can lead to adjustment anxiety, depression, as well as feelings of loss. It is necessary for your well-being to have a good understanding of the natural process of life transitions when dealing with distressing and disorienting life events. Through the Innerworkings counseling process, you will obtain support and guidance, and strengthen your coping abilities as you move through the different phases of transition. In addition to the life events mentioned above, my work has also focused on:
In addition to the issues listed under grief and loss these are other examples of losses and life events that can lead to trauma.
A comprehensive addictions evaluation will be completed in the first meeting to determine whether your substance use is abuse or an addiction. Based on the result of your evaluation and the ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) criteria, you will be recommended to the appropriate level of care which may include individual counseling, education group, group treatment or a more intensive level of care. I will work with you to obtain services from another provider if you need a different service or a higher level of care that is outside my scope of practice.
Individual counseling and psychotherapy can take place once to twice a week depending on your need. Issues stemming from early recovery to long-term growth recovery are addressed.
Issues of adjusting to a new life without substance use, maintaining recovery, relapse prevention strategies as well as living a meaningful life without substances are discussed. Individuals who attend this group have completed either residential or Intensive Outpatient Program treatment. This group meets once a week group.
You will be referred to a Suboxone provider, if Suboxone or a Suboxone evaluation is warranted in your addictions treatment. You would continue the counseling process with me while taking Suboxone.
